Industry says goodbye to Grazia
German publishing giant Bauer Media is today expected to announce the closure of Grazia Magazine, citing poor circulation and the need to divert funds to the launch of Elle Australia.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, sources within the company have confirmed the closure with an expected double digit drop on circulation. After it’s launch 5 years ago, the magazine was meant to bring new life to Australian magazines by focusing on what celebrities were wearing rather than what they did.
Despite its success in international markets such as Italy and the UK – where the magazine sells 210,000 copies a week – the Australian magazine focused too heavily on international content rather than on the introduction of local gossip and maintained a much higher cost price.
After loosing traction with the Australian market, 30 jobs are expected to be lost due to the closure.
