Meet Megan Gale, the first ever Australian face of L’Oreal Paris.
A big week has been and a standout of the week was that Megan Gale was announced as the first ever Australian face of the iconic “Because your worth it” brand L’Oreal Paris.
Growing up in Perth, Western Australia, Megan took up modeling as a teenager, winning a competition at age 18. Since then, she has graced the cover of countless magazines — including marie claire and Australian Women’s Weekly — and has modeled for leading fashion houses all over the world.
After appearing in two successful television commercials, the third one changed her life: rocketing to international fame in an ad for the Italian Vodafone. That work was just the start of her long-held interest in acting, since then she’s appeared in three Italian feature films and the 2010 Australian film I Love You Too.
During the early years of the Melbourne Fashion Festival, when Robert Buckingham was director, Megan Gale was billed as Star of the 2001Festival – Susan Renouf, then Strategic manager of the Festival said ‘We brought her from Italy through Camerons. Although the Italians were wild about her, she was barely known in Australia. She was great on the Runway, and a delightful guest /ambassador.’ Following this success,, David Jones picked her up as their “Face ” and the rest is history.
Megan has also regularly hosted television programs, including Body Works, Getaway and What a Year. She is currently executive producer and host of Foxtel’s Season 3 for Project Runway Australia.
Philanthropy is also important to Megan; she works with the Australian Red Cross, Kids Help Line and the Breast Cancer Foundation.
We asked Megan about her very fashionable views on designers/ beauty and her own hidden talents, this is what we came up with…
1. Who was your favourite designer at LMFF this year? Alex Perry‘s sold out show was a stand out – high glamour, sexy and sophisticated with great silhouettes and I also loved the Carl Kapp pieces shown at the Runway One show.
2. What has the highlight been so far of your time as the 1st ever Australian face of L’Oreal Paris? The L’Oreal Luncheon was a great way to kick off the week, mingle with everyone before the week began and it was a lovely way to officially be welcomed as one of the faces of the festival.
3. Define beauty? What does beauty mean to you? Beauty is extremely hard to define as it is something that truly is in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes, and holds a different meaning and definition for everybody. In my opinion, beauty goes far beyond aesthetics. Someone can be physically beautiful but not necessarily have great characteristics as a person and for me I would struggle to find that person beautiful if their character is not that nice, proving that for me that it is more than just skin deep.
That said though, I think everyone is beautiful in some way, we all just have different ways in demonstrating it and some struggle more than others to find it within themselves and perhaps don’t have the confidence or the ability to find it from within and show it to the world. But I believe it does exist somewhere within us all, be it externally or internally.
4. Do you have a secret hidden talent that no one knows about? (Ie. Making a mean pasta, doing your makeup without a mirror) I give a pretty good deep tissue massage and have quite the knack of getting out stubborn knots in muscles.
5. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? A veterinarian, because I adore animals or a beauty therapist as I loved the idea of pampering people and making them feel special.
6. Who inspires you? I have met so many people over the years that have inspired me, so the list is long. The most recent person to be added to this list is Aimee Mullins, my fellow L’Oreal Paris ambassador. She has achieved so much in her life and all of it, as she likes to say, as been because of not in spite of her obstacles that she has had to overcome. She is a very positive, driven, strong, intelligent woman with a cheeky sense of humour and is also extremely stunning!

7. Date night: Jeans, heels and … a smile
8. The item in my wardrobe I cherish the most is … My AC/DC T shirt (to be worn with the smile on the date).
9. My most extravagant purchase I ever made was … It would either be my wool cashmere Gucci long belted jacket or my Louis Vuitton XL shoulder bag. Both a bit naughty, but classic investment pieces that I’ll have for life.
10. Looking back, my bigger fashion faux pas was … The 80′s hold a few memories for me, but they did for everyone, I guess. I may have been the owner of an Ed Hardy hat for a brief period of time, but I must stress it was before anyone had one and before anyone hated them.
11. Any look is not complete without … oodles of confidence.
12. The hottest look for this season is … Suiting. Women’s suiting is a big look for Autumn – Winter and is a sharp, sophisticated, sexy and strong way for women to dress. A great way to adapt the layering trend and also very cost effective as a suit with a shirt can be worn together or when broken down, the individual pieces can be paired back with existing pieces in your wardrobe.
13. My favourite fashion designer is … I can’t pick one! Overseas designers I love are Herve Leger, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Preen to name a few and Aussie designers I love are Alex Perry, Ksubi, Willow, Bassike, Scanlan and Theodore and Collette Dinnigan.
